The Sun Days :: "You Don't Need To Be Them"
With a name that knowingly cribs their forerunners, the Sundays, Gothenburg's own the Sun Days charge ebulliently forward on second single, "You Don't Need To Be Them". It is relentless twee, a weightless chorus that rises expectedly but with no shortage of pluck as the eponymous lyric wails its way to the ceiling. If "Here's Where the Story Ends" makes you want to throw up in your mouth, this isn't for you, but this updated version of Harriet Wheeler's fecund vocal will be pleasing to almost everyone else. An empire of sunshine and moral victories for the tiny-fisted individual, "You Don't Need To Be Them" is an anthem for people who approach anthems with circumspection.

Night Flowers :: "North"
The Sundays never died, they just reanimated years later as Night Flowers' latest single, "North". A plaintive guitar and vaguely menacing bass line only hint at the pathological danger contained in the vocals of Hester Ullyart. An ethereal and fading dream, she soars out over a chorus of increasingly chunky guitars, still bent on the sky even as the arrangement darkens beneath her. "North" represents a visual simile in sound, a filtered and highly-stylized montage of scenes spent driving through cities in Western Europe, a halcyon youth in form and function.

Let's Be Loveless :: "Video Song"
Brooklyn's Let's Be Loveless draw portions of their name from the second My Bloody Valentine LP and their sound from across the dream-pop and shoegaze landscape. On debut single, "Video Song", vocalist Abby Camaya channels one the band's stated and most pleasing influences: The Sundays. Though "Video Song" is darker by far, a bass line that rumbles with a vague if unyielding menace, the breezy vocal, even on lines like "Give me some time to work this out" is every bit Harriet Wheeler. With an album release show at Muchmore's on July 10th, it will be something like you and them in the summer time, as Camaya calls wilting from beyond the leading guitars.
