DJ Natty Heavy :: THE FIRST OF THE MONTH [June 2013]

DJ Natty Heavy is back with his third monthly compilation mix for your ears, an exclusive to 32ft/sec and we're calling it THE FIRST OF THE MONTH [June 2013], the time when you get paid, or when someone comes to collect, or in this case, both. Natty Heavy is already one of the best spinners of records in the American South, lighting up the airwaves and clubs of Charleston with impunity, and now he brings his talents to indie rock. It isn't his usual wheelhouse - except that he immediately makes a new wheelhouse - mashing up Vampire Weekend with Jay-Z, Skee-Lo and Born Ruffians, Tupac and the Strokes, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and B.o.B., Snoop Dog and Jon Lawless. Tell your friends, and then take cover. It's your just-add-water mix for the increasingly dilated days of June, straight from the South to make a big hot mess out of your Zip Code.

1. Vampire Weekend - "Worship You"/Jay-Z "Dirt Off Your Shoulder"
2. Prides - "Out of the Blue"/ Dorrough "Ice Cream Paint Job"
3. CHVRCHES - "Mother We Share"
4. Skee-Lo - "I Wish"/ Born Ruffians "Needle"/Fatman Scoop "Natty Heavy Bumper"
5. The Strokes - "Happy Ending"/Tupac - "Changes"
6. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Sacrilege"/ B.o.B. - "Still In This Bitch"
6. Jon Lawless and Mary Cassidy "Verbs"/Snoop Dog "Sensual Seduction"

DJ Natty Heavy :: THE FIRST OF THE MONTH [August 2011]

DJ Natty Heavy is back with his second monthly compilation mix for your ears, an absolute burner with no regard for your safety. It's an exclusive to 32ft/sec and we're calling it THE FIRST OF THE MONTH, the time when you get paid, or when someone comes to collect, or in this case, both. Already one of the best club DJs below the Mason-Dixon (who else gets shouts from Estelle and Ghostface on the regular?), here we find Heavy in top form on a Tom Vek/"Top Billin'" mash or the YACHT/Capital Cities transition or the absolute explosion that happens in the use of Polarsets and Cee Lo. What about Adele thrown over a song about the apocalypse or "Gucci Gucci" taking over the back half of the Strokes' "Taken For A Fool"? It will take two listens before you even fully grasp what happened here. Absolute fire from the American South from a DJ that if you don't know, now you know, I'd say you should stream and download below but, really, you need to tell everyone you know and take cover. This kid is coming to wreck your town.

Tracks:
1. Common - "The Corner"/ GROUPLOVE - "Itching On A Photograph"
2. Tom Vek - "We Do Nothing" / Audio Two - "Top Billin'"
3. YACHT - "Dystopia" / Adele - "Rolling In The Deep"
4. Capital Cities - "Safe And Sound" / Estelle - "American Boy"
5. The Rapture - "How Deep Is Your Love"
6. Polarsets - "Leave Argentina" / Cee Lo - "Fuck You
7. First Rate People - "Someone Else Can Make A Work Of Art" / Drake - "Best I Ever Had"
8. The Strokes - "Taken For A Fool" / Kreayshawn - "Gucci Gucci"

A Season Of Dilated Time :: An 8tracks Mix

A few days ago the good folks over at 8tracks asked us to put together a mix for summer. Luckily for them we're not above casual, passing flattery and we quickly threw together a bunching of songs that reminded us of warmer temperatures, or, as the title stolen from Michael Chabon suggests, "a coming season of dilated time." It's streaming over at our brand new 8tracks account, where we think we're going to be making a few more of these. If you're a regular reader, you'll notice a lot of favorites from the last few months (Capital Cities, Light Vibes, Bad Lamps, Auditorium, etc.), though minus the foghorn and genre-bending beat mixes of Natty Heavy's mix of a few weeks back. Like always, it's something to do while at work, you know, if you're not already shuffling the blog to death. Check it up.

DJ Natty Heavy :: "32ft/second June/July Mix"

DJ Natty Heavy and I go back more than 10 years now. And though my career only took a weird and brief trip through the music industry, he made his life there. Currently you can find him producing a top-rated morning radio show in Charleston, South Carolina and spinning the hottest records (check his Fashion Week video above) at Charleston's most exclusive clubs. On a recent visit I asked Heavy if he'd be up for putting together mixes for the blog based on some recent and challenging songs I sent his way. Now, this kid spins hip-hop, freestyles against Common, but you're not exactly going to find the new Cults record in his whip. But he agreed to the challenge, and the first edition mixtape is hot off the decks and ready for stream and download below, along with a track list. This might be the least hip-hop thing he has ever done, and it is absolutely perfect for all your plug-and-play summer circumstances. He even threw in some extra fog horn for me. Check it up or check it down.

Tracks:
1. Cults - "You Know What I Mean"/Common - "The Corner"
2. The Vaccines - "Norgaard"
3. French Films - "Convict"
4. Gauntlet Hair - "I Was Thinking"/Lady Gaga - "LoveGame"
5. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. - "An Ugly Person On A Movie Screen"/ Tupac - "Changes"
6. Coldplay - "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall"
7.Theme Park - "Milk"
8. Tom Vek - "A Chore"

Happy 4th of July and Add Water Jamz from DJ Natty Heavy

It's America's 232nd Birthday people and you've got to figure your business out. It's a holiday we celebrate by eating things cooked over fire and shooting small arms fire into the sky. It's actually more like Afghanistan than we'd like to admit. So, like last year, I hope it's a good one and we'll be back Monday. You deserve this, America. Because, deep down, we fucking love this place that we've come to know. Happy 232.

I promised to never post blog-hop. This is not that. This is from our BOY. DJ (dee-jay!) Natty (natty!) Heavy (heavy!). (F-F-F-FOG-FOGHORN!). He produces the #1 morning radio show in South Carolina and he spins jams on the weekends while the best and brightest come out and pound the streets of Charleston. If you're in the area, you'll see him out and you can buy him a drink. Otherwise, for those of you not in the South, DJ Natty Heavy has cut us a mixtape for the Northerners who'd like to spend almost 40-minutes in the dirty. He even cuts the Ting Tings in there for you glam-rock, hipster shitheads. It's called Ya'll Can't Dance Vol.2 and it's up for free download on Nattyheavy.com. We're linking it up so you can download, put it in the iPod, add water and have straight cash on your speakers for the 4th of July. Check it up or check it out.
